Federal Government Partners AKSG On Veterinary Drugs Distribution

The Federal Government has partnered the Akwa Ibom government in the distribution of Veterinary drugs, consumables and diseases containment materials to Veterinary Centres in the state.

 The gesture, which was made available to the state Ministry of Agriculture, through the Federal Department of Veterinary and Pests Control Services (FDVPCS), is to enhance drugs diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases in all the local government areas of the state to encourage high productivity in livestock production for the realisation of food sufficiency.

 The commissioner for agriculture, Dr. Offiong Offor, while flagging off the drugs distribution exercise in Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital, noted that drugs distribution was imperative in controlling animal diseases through proper diagnosis and treatment to forestall the transmission of diseases from animals to humans.

 Her words: “Diseases, if ignored, will have significant negative impact on the economy and livelihood, this requiresa drastic measure to be contained. In order to checkmate these, the state government and Federal Department of Veterinary and Pest Control Services are embarking on this exercise to ensure effective diagnosis and treatment of animal diseases.”

 Offor appreciated Gov Udom Emmanuel for his commitment to improve on animal health in the state through partnership with relevant stakeholders, noting that his proactive responses to devastating animal diseases are incomparable to other state governors in the country.

 The commissioner urged Veterinary doctors who received the package to make good use of the items for the purpose of curbing possible outbreak of animal diseases in the state.

 The permanent secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Mary Ukoette Bassey, while welcoming guests to the event, noted that proper implementation of agricultural policies of the state government has spurred the Federal Government’s interest in the improvement of the sector for food sufficiency to be achieved.

 Bassey described as a welcome development, the distribution of drugs and consumables as it would help in no small measures to reduce to the barest minimum outbreak of animal diseases in the state.

 The state coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD), Dr. Uyobong Uko, represented by Dr. Ochuko Orakpoghenor, said the Federal Government through his Ministry, decided to carry out the distribution of drugs to enhance effective treatment of animals.

 On his part, the state director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Obot Obot, thanked the commissioner of agriculture for ensuring a rancor-free and equitable distribution of the drugs to encourage healthy animal production and expansion of life expectancy in the state.

 The zonal director of Veterinary Services for Eket Local Government Area, Dr. Abasiodiong Malachy; the zonal director, Animal Husbandry Services Department, Elder Ema Ebeutte; the state chairman, Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, Dr. Ofonmbuk Ntuen, in their goodwill messages, acknowledged the enormous roles of drugs to animal health.

 They observed with delight that the availability of drugs would facilitate the performance of the veterinary doctors in the breeding and production of healthy animals for human consumption in the state.

The veterinary doctors were provided with Knapsack Sprayers, ectoparasites, multi- vitamins injections, disinfectants, among others.
