The Akwa Ibom deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, House of Representatives member, Mr. Unyime Idem;Mr.Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN; Arc. Iniobong Orok, have charged the newly elected state executive of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by Elder Aniekan Akpan to remain focused and win more members to the party ahead of the 2027general elections.
Eyakenyi gave the charge, Saturday, during the State Congressof the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which took place at the Uyo Township Stadium.
The deputy governor, who commended the immediate past state executive for a job well done in the last four years, stated that the executive performed creditably well in the mobilisation of the party to win the 2023 general elections in the state.
She acknowledged Elder Akpan’s strict implementation of the party policies, adding that having completed the tenure of the late Udo Ekpenyong, he was good to lead the party again, especially as focus would be geared towards the 2027general elections.
The deputy governor maintained that having completed the first term successfully, the task before the new executive was to ensure that the PDP remained united and intact, while they should work towards bringing back those who had stepped aside to move the party forward as a family.
Eyakenyi explained that Akwa Ibom had remained a PDP stronghold since 1999 and it behooved on the new executive to keep the flag flying to sustain the Gov Umo Eno-led administration in view of the fact that the governor was committed to effectively serving the people in the provision of projects in line with the ARISE Agenda.
She stated that the peaceful conduct of the ward and chapter congresses and mammoth crowd at the state congress demonstrated the fact that Governor Eno had carried all members of the party along and such was the reflection of the support the people had accorded him.
The member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, MrUnyime Idem, said the outgone state PDP executive performed so well in ensuring the victory of the sitting governor in 2023 and had successfully conducted the ward and local government congresses.
Idem stated that with the expiration of the former executive and the election of a new one, it was expected that the incoming state executive should take a cue from the last one with an intent to do better to ensure that PDP succeeds to 2027.
Also speaking, a stakeholder of the party in Ika Local Government Area and former attorney general of the state, Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, SAN, said the prevailing atmosphere of peace and togetherness was a reflection of the level of justice and fairness in the party executive under the leadership of Gov Umo Eno.
Nwoko explained that the conduct of congresses from the ward, chapter and the state, had been very peaceful, saying,“this is a measure of the standard of fairness and justice which hold people together and that is why people will say that PDP is like a religion in Akwa Ibom State.”
He stated that the outgoing executive did extremely well, a development he said had ensured the peaceful conduct of ward and chapter congresses to nominate councillorship and chairmanship candidates for the October 5 local government elections in the State.
The former attorney general commended the peaceful disposition of the leader of the party in the state, Governor Eno, whom he described as a man of peace and vision that has been able to hold the party together.
The Transition Committee chairman for Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, Arc. Iniobong Orok, appreciated God for how far the PDP had come as a party and commended the past administration of the party executive in the state.
Orok thanked the leader of the party, Governor Eno, for maintaining the structure of the party that had culminated in the wonderful ending of the former executive and the process of establishing a new structure for the future of the party, to guarantee a continuous victory for PDP.
He noted that the newly formed executive, consisting of old members, transiting to the new executive and new members, will usher in a synergy that would unite the party towards to deliver in 2027.
Also speaking, MrOnofiok Luke said the governor had shown direction to the party in a hitch-free ward Congresses, hitch-free chapter congresses that had led to the state congress where new hands would be elected to keep the party moving forward.
Luke explained that do far so good, the party under Elder Aniekan Akpan had justified its existence in the state in ensuring that the party won the general elections in 2023 and of course had ended triumphantly this year.
The former federal lawmaker who represented Etinan Federal Constituency in the National Assembly said as a party that has a strong foundation in the state, the new executive which will have old member with experience coming together with new members, would provide a leadership and direction that would see the PDP through in 2027.
In the election which had the retention of most members of the former executive, Elder Aniekan Akpan maintained his position as state chairman, while Mr Ibanga Brownson emerged as the new state secretary.
