ORON
The Akwa IbomDeputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, has said that the administration of Pastor Umo Eno is fair to Oro nation and its people as she rendered a detailed account of the projects and policies of the administration to the area.
The Deputy Governor stated this while addressing elders and leaders of thought of Oro nation, under the aegis of Akpakip Oro Elders’ Advisory Council in her residence in Oron recently
She described the developmental projects sited in Oro Nation by Pastor Umo Eno as unprecedented, saying the governor was intentional about giving all sections of the state a sense of belonging.
Eyakenyi said since the governor has commenced statewide consultations ahead of the forthcoming elections, she considered it necessary to bring the leaders of Oro nation up to speed with the projects and programmes of the administration to help reinforce their support for the governor and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the coming elections.
She emphasized that the number and magnitude of the projects were proofs that the Governor Eno cares for Oro nation, assuring that the governor was determined to address other issues affecting the people and permanently transform the area.
“Oro Nation has not been left out of the projects executed in other parts of the State, ranging from the model schools to the model primary healthcare centres, the compassionate homes and road projects in all the Local Government Areas.
“Beyond these widespread projects, there are other projects he has sited here to underscore the fact that he cares for Oro Nation and that he’s determined to transform this area.
The deputy governor cited the maritime infrastructure and blue economy project at the Oron beach as a signature project of the governor in Oro Nation, describing it as the biggest project the Akwa Ibom State government has ever executed in any of the five Local Government Areas of the federal constituency.
Speaking further, she said the Uyo – Nsit Atai – Okobo Road was ready for commissioning by the President with solar-powered streetlights being installed, noting that the governor has kept his promise to Oro people.
On the deplorable state of the old Okopedi – Oti Oro – Atiabang – Uya Oro Road, Senator Eyakenyi disclosed that the governor has awarded contract for the rehabilitation of the road up to Oron beach in line with the promise he made during his recent visit to the area, noting that the contractor was just waiting for the rains to subside before mobilizing to site in order not to compromise the quality of the job.
Commenting on the ongoing construction of Okopedi- Uya Oron Road up to the East West Road by the CCECC, the Deputy Governor assured the stakeholders that the construction was on course, expressing optimism that the contractor would complete the bridge on schedule and deliver on the project in a few months.
She noted that upon the completion of the dualization of the Okopedi- Uya Oro Road by the CCECC and the soon-to-commence rehabilitation of the old Okopedi – Oti Oro- Atiabang- Uya Oro Road, commuters will enjoy the privilege of choosing which of the routes to ply while going to, or returning from Oron town.
On the 2027 elections, Eyakenyi informed them that Eno has decided to adopt a bottom-top approach for the campaigns, urging them to return to their Wards and enlighten the people at the grassroots on what the government is doing for them.
According to her, the first step in the electoral process is to be a registered voter, appealing to them to mobilize those who registered with INEC after the 2023 elections to collect their Permanent Voters Cards and ensure total victory for the APC in all elections.
“The first step to achieving this is to ensure that those from your Wards who registered with INEC after 2023 claim their PVCs and actually come out to cast their votes for the APC.
She urged them to campaign vigorously and vote for all candidates of the APC, starting from the Presidency to the State House of Assembly candidates.
The Member representing Oron Federal Constituency, Rep. Martins Esin, appreciated the people for their support for the APC government at both state and national levels, noting that while it is easy to criticise, the governor deserves appreciation for his legacy projects in the federal constituency, particularly the maritime hub investment and the construction of Uyo-Nsit Atai-Okopedi- Uya Oro Road.
He said appreciation for the unprecedented development of the constituency must reflect in the quantum of votes cast for the President, the Governor and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to him, the total votes cast as against the total number of registered voters and the margin of victory are now important indices that attract projects and appointments.
Esin informed the gathering that he has ticked all the boxes in his RIDE Agenda, disclosing that he has so far facilitated over 70 federal employments for his constituents.
