Uyo
Little Umo Bassey Eno’s relatives, neighbours and friends probably knew all along that he was somebody special. But not even the most enthusiastic would have imagined the height he would reach in life. Even when two prophecies were given at different times that he will someday become Governor, no one, not even himself, took it seriously.
Perseverance, through trials and tribulations, has characterised Eno’s life’s journey and the little school boy who started out in the Police Barracks, Lagos, helping his mother hawk soft drinks, has turned out to be great, excelling in business and the church and now in governance.
That little barracks boy rose to become the owner of the biggest hospitality outfits in Akwa Ibom State, successfully combining it side by side with the leadership of a notable Pentecostal Church for many years.
And in more than two years now, he has sat pretty as the Governor of the state, working wonders to the delight of the people.
These wonders look endless, cutting across sectors like infrastructure, agriculture, health, humanitarian affairs, security, tourism, budgeting, economic empowerment, education, housing, local government, traditional institution, labour relations, fiscal discipline, politics, maritime development, water supply and co-operative development.
Others are youth affairs, women affairs, care for the elderly, skill acquisition, Information and Communication Technology, power, environment, transportation, aviation development and land administration.
From all indications, Eno is not done with Akwa Ibom. He seems to have a lot up his sleeves. The best may yet to come.
