The Excellence Community Education Welfare Scheme(ECEWS) has been awarded a five- year contract to implement the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) supported HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment in the state.
ECEWS, an indigenous non-governmental organization(NGO), will be taking over HIV/AIDS intervention from the Family Health International (FHI- 360) with effect from August 1, 2022.
This development was announced by Dr Ezekiel James of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) when he led USAID, FHI-360, ECEWS and other implementing partners on a courtesy call on the commissioner for health at the conference hall of the Health Ministry, recently.
James who lauded the Akwa Ibom government in their healthy partnership in the drive to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state, noted that the zeal and commitment had yielded visible results.
He stressed that there was need to brief the ministry of the round off of the contract of FHI-360 as well as the coming on board of ECEWS.
James called on the ministry to extend the good will it had bestowed on the outgoing partner to the incoming partner.
The commissioner for health, Professor Augustine Vincent Umoh, in his response appreciated USAID for their various partnerships in the health care delivery in the state.
He gave his assurances that the state government will continue to give enabling environment to every individual or group that was working in the interest of the people of the state.
