Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Culture and Tourism has presented a total budgetary outlay of N16 billion for its activities and programmes in the 2026 fiscal year.
The commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Anieti Udofia, made this known, Wednesday August 20, 2025, during the ongoing Bilateral Discussions with the 2026 Budget Committee holding at the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
Udofia explained that of the N16 billion total budgetary outlay for 2026, Capital estimate stands at N13 billion with Overhead cost coming next with N2 billion, while Personnel cost stands at N554 million.
He said since tourism is critical in the ARISE Agenda framework of the Governor Umo Eno-led administration, the 2026 Budget of the Ministry will target majorly the development of Tourism sites including the Ikot Abasi, Itu, Mkpat Enin and Eastern Obolo Tourism hub.
The tourism commissioner, who solicited the Committee’s consideration and approval of his Ministry’s 2026 budget proposal, expressed appreciation to the State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his commitment in the development of the Tourism sector of the State, reiterating that tourism is the globally acknowledged thriving sector for revenue generation, wealth creation and youth employment.
In his reaction, the chairman of the 2026 Budget Committee and commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Nsikan Linus Nkan, thanked the tourism commissioner for his well-articulated presentation, assuring that the Committee will look critically at the proposal towards favorable consideration.
Accompanying the tourism commissioner on the Budget presentation were his permanent secretary, Mrs. Grace Akpan and directors in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
