The Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State (COOPA) has announced plans to host the first-ever Uyo Social Media Week.

Making the announcement over the weekend, COOPA Chancellor, Mr. Utitofon Morgan, through the organisation’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Uwakmfon Dan, said the week-long event will hold from November 10-15, 2025.

According to him, the event will draw leading voices in the media, tech, government, policy, and community development.

With the theme “Amplifying Local Voices through Digital Innovation”, Uyo Social Media Week aims to provide a vibrant forum for digital professionals, creators, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to share knowledge, network, and spark meaningful conversations around the role of digital media in community growth and national development.

“This is more than just a conference. It is a platform for celebrating digital creativity, equipping our people with skills, and shaping a more inclusive digital future for Akwa Ibom and beyond. We want to empower communities to tell their own stories and engage the world from a position of strength. Our belief is that this event will position Akwa Ibom as a hub for digital communication, innovation, and technology-driven development”, the Chancellor noted.

He disclosed that the event would feature keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions, networking sessions, and a series of impact-driven activities, including a media tour, social impact outreach, health walk, and an award ceremony to honour outstanding contributions in the digital space, especially, in Akwa Ibom State.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Darlington Udobong, has hinted that the event will also mark the 10th Anniversary of the Conference of Online Publishers in Akwa Ibom State.

Udobong listed high-profile speakers lined up for the event include Senator Ekong Sampson, who represents Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District; Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, former Member of the House of Representatives and human rights lawyer Barr. Inibehe Effiong.

Others include investigative journalists Mr. Ibanga Isine of Next Edition Newspaper,
Mr. Cletus Ukpong of Premium Times and; brand consultant Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr; Solomon Eyo, an ICT Aide to Governor to Akwa Ibom State Governor, as well as Barr. Ewa Okpo, amongst others.

Participants will benefit from intensive workshops and trainings covering digital content creation, social media monetisation, video production, digital marketing, and ethical media practices.

Udobong stressed that the breakout sessions and workshops will be handled by experts across the country.

“We are proud that Uyo is hosting this event, and we are ready to welcome guests from across Nigeria and beyond.”

“We also welcome sponsors and partners from technology firms, media houses, NGOs, educational institutions, and government agencies to join us in delivering this historic initiative,” he said.

#UyoSMW2025 is targeted at a wide audience, including social media influencers, online publishers, journalists, bloggers, tech startups, students, policymakers, government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders.
