Akwa Ibom women have been urged to unite and continue in their support toward people-oriented policies and programmes of Governor Umo Eno’s administration in the State.
The commissioner for women affairs and social welfare, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo, made the call, recently, while interacting at a meeting of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women’s Forum, which took place at Essien Udim Local Government Council Hall, and equally solicited the women’s support to President Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Etukudo, who until her appointment was the President of the Forum, advised the women to identify with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), by ensuring massive registration with the party in their respective wards.
The women affairs boss, who handed over the mantle of leadership to her successor, Dr Eme Camillus Umo, expressed confidence in the new leadership, assuring that the forum will continue to maintain its enviable position as a ”pace-setter” in women affairs within Akwa Ibom.
Etukudo, while emphasising the need for unity and proactive engagement without division, urged the forum to lend total support to key political office holders in the State, in line with their organisation’s constitutional position of supporting any incumbent administration in the State.
In her acceptance speech, the new president of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Women’s Forum, Dr Eme Camillus Umo, solicited unity and collective efforts from members with a view to achieving the set goals.
Umo enumerated some of the plans of the new leadership as construction of a permanent secretariat for the forum, organisation of health and entrepreneurial seminars, promotion of modern agricultural practices in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, as well as advocacy campaign against all forms of abuses and violence against women and children.
While expressing gratitude to the immediate past president of the forum, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo and her team, for their outstanding achievements during their tenure, the new president pledged transparency, unity and accountability throughout her tenure.
The event featured special recognition to the former First Lady of the Akwa Ibom, Dr Martha Emmanuel, for her role in strengthening the forum and the extension of the forum’s influence to Uyo and Eket Senatorial Districts, as well as witnessed goodwill messages from various stakeholders across the senatorial district.
Other high-points of the occasion were the inauguration of the new executive members of the forum, board of trustees, coordinators and cutting of ceremonial cake as a mark of new beginning in the forum.
