Members of the Chartered Institute of Social Work Practitioners of Nigeria, C-ISOWN, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, have been lauded for their contributions in ensuring the safety and welfare of vulnerable children in the State.
The commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo who made the commendation, Friday, while receiving C-ISOWN representatives during a courtesy call in her office, noted that social work being one of the compassionate social services was crucial in addressing complex societal issues.
Etukudo, who expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for his passion and irrevocable commitment toward the well-being of children and the vulnerable population in the society, assured C-ISOWN of her ministry’s preparedness to collaborate in relevant areas that would impact positively on the lives of children and other vulnerable persons in Akwa Ibom.
She declared her intention to participate in the upcoming 16th Annual International Conference of the organisation, slated for November 5-8, 2025 in Enugu State, expressing the hope that the conference will expose the social workers and the entire social community to sound strategies in tackling social work challenges.
The women affairs boss, who advocated the development of a roadmap for social work practice, particularly in areas concerning child welfare and gender-based violence, remarked, “I’m grateful for the dedication and hard work of the social workers in our State; their passion and compassion are truly transforming lives and making meaningful difference in our society.”
In his address, the Akwa Ibom State Chapter chairman of C-ISOWN, Mr Ignatius Ibanga, commended Etukudo for her dedication to social work activities in the State.
Ibanga, who congratulated the commissioner on her appointment into the State Executive Council, requested for a one-week training session for the Ministry’s staff on the upcoming online professional licensing system.
He equally invited the women affairs boss to C-ISOWN’s 16th Annual International Conference scheduled to hold from November 5-8, 2025 in Enugu State, while soliciting the Ministry’s collaboration in organising Social Work Week, slated for March 2026, as well as the establishment of biannual stakeholders’ meetings to proactively address social work challenges with a view to ensuring effective implementation of laid down strategies.
