The commissioner for health has emphasized the need for operators of health facilities to obtain authorisation from relevant authorities before they could operate in the state.
Professor Augustine Vincent Umoh reiterated the stance of the government when he played host to a non-governmental organisation, the Wonder Life Care Mission International, at the conference room of the ministry, recently.
The commissioner who commended the organisation for operating within the prescription of the law, stressed that any person or organisation pretending to provide any form of medical services to members of the public, must acquire appropriate registration and certification for proper supervision and monitoring.
The health boss held that the state government, in its dogged determination to raise a healthy Akwa Ibom, welcomed partnership from individuals and organisations who shared a mutual dream of a healthy citizenry.
He urged non-governmental organisations to identify with like minded individuals and organisations for the actualization of their objectives.
Speaking earlier, the chairman, Board of Governors, Wonder Life Care Mission International, Professor Etim Udoh, DFR, who is also a former secretary to the Akwa Ibom State government, had intimated the commissioner that the NGO had as its passion, the provision of organised care, dignified treatment, improvement and restoration of the quality of lives of mentally challenged persons.
He said that the organisation which was founded 26 years ago,had so far treated and restored 670 hitherto mentally challenged persons to their families.
Udoh expressed his appreciation to Governor Udom Emmanuel who he said facilitated the construction of their clinic, and appealed that they were still areas they needed assistance.
