In every corner of Akwa Ibom, boys chase footballs across sandy streets, their cheers rising with each goal scored on makeshift posts. Some play barefoot, others in worn-out boots—but all share the same dream: to one day wear the jersey of a big club, to one day be seen.

Now, for the first time, those dreams have a new stage.

Comfort FM has launched the Neighborhood Football Fiesta, a grassroots tournament that will transform the passion of street football into opportunities for discovery. For fans, it’s more than a competition—it’s a chance to watch the next generation of stars rise from their very own neighborhoods.

A Chance at Glory: At the unveiling in Uyo, George Iniabasi Essien (Mighty George), Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, spoke with the conviction of someone who understands the value of opportunity:

“This is not just about prize money—it is about giving hidden talents a chance to be seen. Some of the boys who will play here may go on to the Nigeria National League and beyond. Comfort FM is building a bridge between dreams and reality.”

The fiesta will run from October to December 2025, featuring up to 32 teams, with registration now open at ₦20,000 per team.

The champions will claim ₦1 million, runners-up ₦750,000, and third place ₦500,000. But beyond the cash rewards, the bigger prize will be the opportunity for young players to showcase their skills before scouts, coaches, and fans.

More Than Just Football: In Akwa Ibom, football is not just a sport—it is a shared celebration. From elders gathering at local pitches with plastic chairs, to children chasing the ball after every throw-in, the game unites neighborhoods. That spirit is what Comfort FM hopes to capture.

Mr. Samuel Enobong Akpan, Consultant to the station, emphasized that the fiesta is designed to be a true festival of football—something communities will proudly own.

Mr. John Ekpeyong, Head of Technical for the LOC, added:

“This is not for established professionals. This is for the boys who still believe that one day, their talent will carry them further. We are giving them a stage where their voices can be heard through football.”

Backed by Institutions, Fueled by Passion: To ensure safety and credibility, Comfort FM has partnered with the Nigeria Police Force, Civil Defence, and other agencies. The Akwa Ibom State Football Association and the Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria (SWAN) have also thrown their weight behind the event.

Comrade Emmanuel Akpan, SWAN Chairman, captured the excitement in the air:

“This is more than a competition. It is the birth of a tradition. In years to come, when we see some of these boys playing in the national league or even for the Super Eagles, we will trace their stories back to this Neighborhood Football Fiesta.”

A Gift of Hope: The intention of this fiesta is clear: to offer hope to communities and opportunities to players. For fans, it is football in its purest form—raw, passionate, and close to home.

With the backing of Senator Effiong Bob, Chairman of Comfort FM, and the enthusiasm of football lovers across the state, the fiesta is set to become a landmark event.

When the whistle blows this October, it won’t just signal the start of a match—it will echo across neighborhoods as the sound of hope. Hope that the next football star may rise from the streets of Uyo, Ikot Ekpene, or Eket.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one neighborhood, one chance, one fiesta to change a player’s story forever.

Stay tuned as we bring you end-to-end coverage of this unforgettable journey.
