Akwa Ibom State Government has taken delivery of 40 out of the 50 Compressed Natural Gas, CNG, buses promised by Gov. Umo Eno, following the arrival of another batch of 10 buses in Uyo a few days ago.
The latest delivery represents another significant step in the state government’s efforts to expand modern, affordable and efficient mass transportation across Akwa Ibom.
With the arrival of the latest 10 buses, the state has now received 80 per cent of the 50 CNG buses earmarked for the programme, leaving 10 buses outstanding.
The first batch of 20 buses arrived in June, followed by another 10, bringing the fleet to 30. The latest consignment of 10 buses has now increased the number delivered to 40.
The CNG bus initiative is part of the administration’s broader response to the rising cost of transportation and the need to provide residents with a more affordable and reliable alternative to conventional petrol- and diesel-powered public transport.
The buses are expected to contribute to the reduction of transportation costs, while promoting cleaner and more efficient mobility within the state.
Alongside the delivery of the buses, the state government is also advancing plans for the development of the necessary CNG infrastructure and terminal facilities in Uyo to support the operation and maintenance of the fleet.
The arrival of the latest batch therefore brings the state considerably closer to fulfilling Gov. Eno’s commitment to introduce 50 CNG-powered buses into the state’s public transportation system.
With 40 buses already delivered, attention will now turn to the arrival of the remaining 10 buses and the commencement of operations for the benefit of commuters across Akwa Ibom.
