The 2025 Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) fair has been held in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, with one of its key objectives to sensitise the public on the bank’s policies and initiatives.
Addressing participants at the fair held at Ibom Hall, IBB Way, Uyo, Tuesday, the Uyo branch controller, CBN, Mrs Njideka Nwabukwu, emphasised the bank’s commitment to supporting the economic aspirations of Akwa Ibom State and highlighted the importance of effective stakeholder engagement, financial literacy campaigns and seamless service delivery in achieving the its mandate.
Nwabukwu stressed that the event aimed at sensitising the public on the bank’s policies and initiatives while gathering valuable feedback to improve service delivery and policy implementation, averring that the theme of this year’s fair: “Driving Alternative Payment Channels as Tools for Financial Inclusion, Growth and Accelerated Economic Development,” is very relevant and forward-looking as the bank plays a very critical role in shaping the economic direction of the nation.
The branch controller disclosed that through these strategic policies and regulatory framework the bank would continue to enhance payment systems, thereby promoting financial inclusion and supporting sustainable economic growth, adding that the role of framework in the bank’s achievements milage cannot be overemphasised as its plays a supportive role in translating and implementing policies, programmes and initiatives at the grassroots level.
She pledged the commitment of Uyo branch towards upholding the bank’s mandate while supporting the economic aspirations of Akwa Ibom State and emphasised the importance of financial literacy campaigns to enhance public understanding of CBN’s policies.
She noted that the bank would ensure seamless service delivery to support economic growth and development as well as create a platform for receiving feedback to improve policy implementation and effective service delivery.
The branch controller appreciated the organisers, the corporate Communications Department, CBN, stakeholders and other strategic business units for supporting the success of the fair.
In his speech, the governor of the Central Bank Nigeria, Mr Olayemi Cardoso, represented by the acting director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Hakama Sidi Ali, said the theme of this year’s fair is particularly significant as its underscores CBN’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovation to enhance financial inclusion, stability and growth in our great nation.
Cardoso hinted that at CBN has been working tirelessly to promote financial inclusion, stability and growth, noting that its policies are aimed at stimulating economic development, improving the lives of Nigerians while ensuring a stable financial system.
He listed some of key initiatives of the bank to include: Exchange Rate Unification Policy, non-resident BVN, Nigeria Payments System Vision 2028 (PSV 2028) and Bank Recapitalisation.
He reiterated the commitment of the bank towards ensuring the integrity of our national currency, the Naira and urged everyone to respect and handle the currency with care, assuring that the fair would provide a veritable platform for the engagement of stakeholders and as well receive valuable feedback even as the bank is committed to transparency, accountability and inclusivity in its operations.
The fair featured papers presentation on “Promoting Financial Stability Inclusion in Nigeria”, by Mrs Ijeoma and “Payment Systems” by Mrs Ando, among others.
It had in attendance micro finance banks, famers association, traders association, security operatives, labour market, NYSC members, financial institutions, students and government official, among others.
