…Warns Against Encroachment On Govt Lands, Water Ways
By Bassey Nkponam
UYO
The Akwa Ibom government has warned members of the public against encroaching on government lands or building on unapproved lands or water ways as such buildings would be demolished without any compensation.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who gave the warning, weekend, during the flag-off of the Judiciary Village, located at Idongesit Nkanga Avenue, Ifa Ikot Okpon in Uyo Local Government Area, said it was the people’s responsibility to do findings on any property they want to buy to ascertain its true ownership.
Eno warned them against purchasing any property without doing findings, or buying such property or build on any land without getting proper approvals, warning that anyone who buys government lands from unauthorised persons or builds on unapproved lands or water ways will have such buildings brought down without any compensation.
“It is your responsibility to do a search on the property that you want to buy. Please, don’t buy or build on any land without getting your proper approvals,” Governor Eno warned, and called on Akwa Ibom youths to take advantage of the ongoing building of over 400 houses in the State to better their lot.
Eno cautioned youths against fomenting trouble in the State in the name of fighting for their groups as government will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone in any guise trying to deprive the State of its inherent peace.
According to Eno, his administration is committed to changing the narrative on youth development, noting that there are data to show the number of youths empowered through business, entrepreneurial development, trade and agricultural grants, as well as equipment supports.
“Apply and be part of the building of these facilities, be it the Medical Village, the Aviation Village, the Judiciary Village, the Council Chairmen’s Quarters, the ARISE Resort, or the International Convention Centre and Hotels. These works are everywhere for the engagement and empowerment of our youths. Let our youths be responsible and productive to build themselves through all these opportunities.
“We are here to help serve our people. I am ready to support those who are ready to work. I am ready to ensure that we support our young people to work. So, endeavour to go to the portal to register and apply for what you are qualified for and interested in, and we will surely oblige you after our evaluation processes,” he assured.
