The family of Iniubong Umoren, who was killed by Uduakabasi Frank Akpan has exonerated Senator Godswill Akpabio of organ harvesting allegation made against him by senator Natasha Akpoti-Udhuaghan, describing it as false.
Speaking at a press conference in Uyo recently, the sister of the deceased, Ifiok Umoren, who was the principal witness, said, “I was there from the first day my sister was exhumed and nothing was missing on her”
Umoren added that she witnessed when the autopsy was conducted on her late sister, saying, nothing on her body was missing when she checked and even when the late sister was buried on May 18, 2022.
“When I saw the news flying, that my late sister’s organ was harvested, I felt so bad. I now asked myself is it that a common person cannot just die and rest in this country. Must someone wake up one day for whatever reason best known to her and make false allegation and then tie it down to the death of my sister. I am not happy about what is happening.
“I want to please beg Nigerians to help me bring down this person that has brought this public ridicule and dramatic re-exposure to my family.
“The Senate president did not send anybody to kill my sister. I don’t know why someone would wake up and want to daint the reputation of a man that has put up so much to build because she want to satisfy whatever she wants. I want to urge everyone to know that nothing was missing in my sister”, she said.
Umoren disclosed that the family is contemplating taking a legal action against senator Natasha Akpoti-Udhuaghan for the false allegation that lacks evidence.
Also speaking, The Director of Public Prosecution, Akwa Ibom State, Friday Johnson Itim Esq, who said he took active part in the prosecution, noted that throughout the trial of the murder case, the convict, maintained that he killed late Umoren alone when she refused to have unprotected sex with him.
Itim said what Akpoti-Udhuaghan allegation was untrue, adding that there was at no point the convict said he was sent by anyone to kill the deceased.
For spreading the allegation, Itim said,”I am hoping she will be taken up for giving false information”
On his part, the coordinator of legal aid council in Akwa Ibom, Sampson Abdullah, who defended the convict, said “there is no where that you will find that the convict was involved organ harvesting, let alone linking it to the Senate president”
Abdullah said, “We are here to put the record straight to the whole world that the allegation is false and baseless, nothing of such happened”
He said the “allegation was made out of malice for whatever purpose the maker wants to achieve”
