Performing artists from Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) held the audience spell-bound with outstanding performances at Christmas Unplugged Season 2 at the Christmas Village, Uyo.
Making a performance on the third day of the second edition of Christmas Unplugged, the participants were thrilled by the AKSU performing artistes through the presentations of Zulu dance steps of South Africa; “Utah” cultural display of Ghana as well as Akpasa dance of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
The artistes, who were uniquely dressed, stormed the Christmas Unplugged arena with their well designed traditional drums and other instruments for the entertainment of participants at the special event that was set aside for the wives of the local government chairmen in the state.
The vice chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Professor Nse Essien, while speaking with The Pioneer, said the performing artistes of AKSU’s Theatre Arts Department were aspiring to become one of the best in the nation’s entertainment industry.
Essien posited that the outstanding performance of his Theatre Arts students at the Christmas Unplugged event was as a result of constant training, serious learning and rehearsals, commending them for not disappointed him at the event.
The vice chancellor thanked Governor Umo Eno for granting approval for the successful hosting of the annual Christmas festival for the entertainment of the people.
He also thanked the students and the audience for finding time to grace the second edition of the annual event, which he described as being so colourful and successful.
The wife of the chairman, Uyo Local Government Council, Mrs Akaninyene Udoh, while addressing participants on behalf of the wives of local government chairmen in Akwa Ibom, thanked Governor Eno for the opportunity given the people of the state to operate in one accord at the Christmas Village.
Udoh noted that the yearly event was organised in line with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno, advising Akwa Ibom women to stay active and remain focused in what they are doing for the purpose of contributing their quota to the economy to guarantee a better future in the state.
The event, organised by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, featured dancing competitions, questions and answers session on current affairs, during which winners were rewarded with prizes courtesy of the wives of chairmen of local government councils in the state.
The wives of local government chairmen, who attended the event included Mrs Akaninyene Udo of Uyo; Mrs Ndifreke Ekpenyong of Uruan, Mrs Emily Uko Umo of Etinan; Mrs Idongesit Utibe Nwoko of Ika; Mrs Mokut Ukpanah of Ukanafun; Mrs Glory Inyang of Ibesikpo Asutan; Mrs Juliana Sunday Festus of Oruk Anam; Mrs Emem Anthony of Nsit Atai; Mrs Elizabeth Etim Uno of Urue Offong/Oruku and Mrs Hellen Nelly Henshaw of Okobo.
