To afford Akwa Ibom indigenes who are major players in the corporate world opportunity to contribute their quota towards the development of the State, the State government is organising a Corporate Summit next year.
The summit tagged, “Corporate Akwa Ibom Summit”, will be a platform where government will bring together all Akwa Ibom sons and daughters wherever they are in the corporate world to chart a way forward for the Akwa Ibom project.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, who stated this Friday, at the grand finale of the medicinal outreach programme organised by the deputy governor, Operations, Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Ms. Emem Usoro, as part of her birthday celebration which took place at Lutheran Primary School, lkot Akpa Edok, Ndiya, in Ikono Local Government Area, noted that the state is blessed with prominent players in the corporate world, hence the need for it to take advantage of their wealth of experience to further the development of the State.
Eno said the summit was necessary as government desires the contributions of Akwa Ibomites in the corporate world to aid the development of their state, rather than them watching from afar.
He noted that it may not be possible for any government to reach the entire community at one go, but can partner those in the corporate world through their programmes and projects such as the outreach by Usoro Foundation to touch the lives of rural dwellers.
“Let me announce very quickly, we will be holding Corporate Akwa Ibom Summit. We would like to bring all Akwa Ibom sons and daughters wherever they are in the corporate world together so that we can meet. I know that you have a platform and a chance to contribute to the development of this State because it is the Akwa Ibom Project.
“We don’t want you to watch from afar.We want people to do the kind of things you are doing now to impact your people. That is only when government can come in because I belief in my heart, and the Bible confirms that in every family, in every village and community, God haspeople whom he has raised up for those places. And if only those people can rise up and support their own, then they can bring government’s attention”.
He lauded Usoro for the wonderful initiative of giving back to her community and particularly, for keying into the key element of the ARISE Agenda which is rural development matrix as it relates to healthcare delivery services to positively impact her people and the State generally, wishing her a happy birthday celebration.
To support the initiative of Usoro, the governor directed that 200 elderly citizens of Ikono be selected for one year free enrollment in the State Health Insurance Scheme, recalling that government under his watch has embarked on the construction of a model primary school in the area, alongside different life touching projects in Ikono including re-awarding of contract for the 10.9km Ikot Ayan-Urua Naira-Ikot Nseyen- Nung Ukim Road, comprising two 40m span bridges, which will connect Nsai Use, Use-Ikot Amama, Ibiaku Ikot Esifa, Utungo Mmong, and Nkwot Edem Edet, spanning communities in Ibiono Ibom and Ikono local government areas.
He furthered that funds have been released for the renovation of Lutheran Primary School, lkot Akpa Edok, Ndiya, the venue for the widows outreach, and assured of more development projects in the area.
The governor urged other players in the corporate world, and well-to-do citizens of the State to emulate Usoro and endeavour to always come back home and impact their local communities and the State.
The celebrator and initiator of the outreach, Ms. Emem Usoro, appreciated the governor for his numerous impactful development strides in Ikono, and the State generally, and for creating time to attend the event to share in the joy of her birthday.
She particularly appreciated the governor for releasing funds for the renovation of Lutheran Primary School, Ikot Akpa Edok, Ndiya, and solicited continued support for the governor by her people to enable his full actualisation of the ARISE Agenda.
