
… Approves Commencement Of Pensioners’ Verification Exercise, April 1

The Akwa Ibom government has ratified and approved the implementation of a modern CNG city bus transportation system in Uyo metropolis, alongside a bus terminal.
The state-of -the-art bus system will provide safe, reliable and eco-friendly bus service that will enhance public transportation and accessibility, while driving socioeconomic development to improve the quality of life for citizens.
The ratification and approval of the project was made by the State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Wednesday, during the State Executive Council meeting which took place at the Executive Chambers, Governor’s office, Uyo, presided over by him.
The commissioner for information, Elder Aniekan Umanah, who stated this through an excerpt of the meeting signed by him, said the transportation system will provide safe, reliable and eco-friendly bus service that will enhance public transportation and accessibility, while driving socioeconomic development to improve the quality of life for citizens.
Umanah noted that government has also approved commencement of pensioners’ verification exercise from April 1, 2025, to enable the State have a clean pensions record and continue the process of seamless payment of pensions to beneficiaries.
The commissioner, in the release, said that Council further approved the refurbishing and renovation of the Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort, Uyo, to restore its lost glory.
This, he said, will involve a total overhaul of furniture, electrical, and mechanical components of its appurtenances to give a completely new experience.
He made known that a request was also brought before Council for the extension of the Julius Berger contract for the maintenance of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium to ensure the facility maintains its standard as Nigeria’s best and home for the Super Eagles.
Umanah said the State Executive Council, after reviewing the report brought before it on the status of the Eket International market, directed the inter-ministerial committee to thoroughly analyse the project, its status and all the issues surrounding it and submit its report within one month to ensure that the project is brought alive in the interest of the people.
He furthered that Council also considered and deliberated on ministerial reports from several ministries to ensure their short term programmes and plans align with the ARISE Agenda and follow through implementation timelines.
