The Akwa Ibom government is flagging off the proposed Maritime Corridor in Oron Local Government Area, this month.
The proposed project will include the shore protection project, construction of jetties, ferry terminal, warehouse development, industrial cold room and recreational facilities to help those doing business around the maritime ecosystem.
The commissioner for information, Mr Aniekan Umanah, who made this known via an excerpt from the inaugural State Executive Council meeting, which took place at the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, said Council took note of the proposed March date to flag off the proposed maritime corridor in Oron, which will include the shore protection project, construction of jetties, ferry terminal, warehouse development, industrial cold room and recreational facilities to help those doing business around the Maritime ecosystem.
“Following the renaming of the Ministry of Economic Development, to Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning by the State government, the State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as stated in the excerpt, has directed the posting of an additional permanent secretary to the Ministry. ”
The new development as indicated in the release was one of the key decisions taken by the newly inaugurated State Executive Council duly reconstituted, with the governor in Council presiding over the session.
According to the release, the new development will allow room for one permanent secretary over-sighting general duties and the other oversighting Budget, while also helping in aligning budgeting and planning within one warehouse to ensure effective development of the State.
The release indicated that the Council reviewed the 35 new projects earmarked by the governor for flag off before May 29, 2025, as well as the appointment of Delivery Advisors to each of the projects to align the conceptualisation to actualisation, and create needed synergy for the flow of the projects through the various timelines.
