The permanent secretary of Akwa Ibom State Hospitals Management Board has charged medical doctors in the state government’s employ to be more proactive and improve on health services rendered to people of the state.
Mrs Stella Etukakpan gave the charge during a courtesy call on her by the local organizing committee (LOC) of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Akwa Ibom Chapter, in her office recently.
Etukakpan advised the medical professionals not to relent in their quota in driving quality healthcare, urging them to be diligent in performing their duty and not be found wanting when the need arises.
The permanent secretary who reiterated state government’s unwavering commitment to the health sector, enumerated the various achievements of the present administration since its inception which she said was borne out of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s love for the profession and passion to ensure that health care delivery in the state was strengthened in every area.
She tasked the medical doctors to appreciate and reciprocate the kind gesture showed them by being more committed to duty, adding that recently a waiver was given by the head of service to four doctors whose Primary Examination Certificate was almost expiring to proceed on Residency Training Programme while awaiting their confirmation of appointments.
Furthermore, the permanent secretary described the theme of upcoming AGM as apt, saying, bringing together of experts and stakeholders to discuss ways of improving health care delivery was a step in the right direction .
She assured the committee of the full participation of medical doctors in government employ while wishing them a successful and productive event.
Earlier in his address, the chairman of the local organizing committee of the year 2022 Annual General Meeting of the NMA, Professor Eyo Ekpe, who intimated to the permanent secretary of the weeklong event, said this year’s AGM was special as it will see the election of officers and change of leadership in the Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the NMA.
Ekpe stated that the theme for the event- Improving Health Care Delivery in Akwa Ibom State was paramount in the hearts and minds of stakeholders in the health sector which includes: the government as funders of health care delivery, health personnel as providers and the General Public as recipients of health care delivery.
The chairman, who noted that the weeklong event will begin with a road walk, mentioned other activities such as, massive public awareness and health education programs through the media, Career Counseling in Secondary Schools across the three senatorial districts and the opening ceremony which is on July 13, 2022.
He expressed his gratitude to the permanent secretary for granting them audience and accepting the Invitation to the opening ceremony.
Present during the courtesy visit were members of the local organizing committee, directors from the board.
The week-long activities of the Annual General Meeting of the NMA began on Monday, July 11th, 2022.
