Akwa Ibom government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Interaf Group Consortium, for the actualisation of Ibom Deep Seaport project in the State.
At the MoU signing ceremony, Monday, at Government House, Uyo, the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, described the project as a critical infrastructure aimed at boosting the state’s economy and transforming the region. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering the project.
Eno, who was represented by the secretary to the State government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, noted the significance of the project, urging the consortium to work closely with Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP) as the government’s representative, to ensure its timely execution.
He said the project was a necessity for the people of the State, adding that his administration was fully committed to putting the necessary requirements in place to get it on course.
Eno commended the organization for its interest in the project and the former minister of petroleum, Atuekong Don Etiebet, for being a part of the team, and for working towards the actualisation of the facility in the State.
Atueokong Etiebet scored Eno high in his visionary and impactful leadership which has remarkably transformed the State for the better, saying the MoU marks a significant milestone in the project’s development, first conceived in 2007.
The chairman and chief executive officer of Interaf Group Consortium, Ezinwa Chinedu Ibekwe, an engineer, appreciated Akwa Ibom government for the confidence reposed in the company, and assured the government of the consortium’s readiness to deliver on its mandate, and to also use a collaborative approach to ensuring the project’s success.
High-point of the occasion was the official signing of the MoU between the State government and Interaf Group Consortium, which outlines the modalities and preliminary framework for collaboration in respect of the development and operations of the deep sea port and the Ibom Industrial City.
Present at the ceremony were the commissioner for justice and attorney general, Mr Uko Udom, SAN; managing director of AKICORP, Pastor Imo-Abasi Jacob; and other government officials.
