The commissioner for special duties and Ibom Deep Seaport has expressed his Ministry’s desire to collaborate with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council.
Comrade Ini Ememobong, who was speaking in his office, recently, when he received the South-South zonal director of the Council, expressed his appreciation for the visit, and said his ministry was ready for mutually beneficial collaboration.
Ememobong noted that the State was blessed with abundant maritime resources, and tasked the Council to go beyond regular routines, to also explore innovative ideas that would foster partnerships for sustainable and profitable maritime development in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria at large.
Earlier, the zonal director of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Mrs. Ify Okolue, had praised Gov Umo Eno for his determination to accelerate development in the State, explaining that the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, a parastatal under the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, plays a crucial role in ensuring efficiency at ports and protecting the interests of Nigerian shippers, including importers and exporters.
Okolue mentioned that Akwa Ibom government’s decision to develop its marine economy necessitated the reopening of the Uyo Area Office of the Council, which had been closed down for a while.
She intimated of sensitization efforts to bring the awareness of stakeholders to the imminent reopening and commissioning of the office.
