The Akwa Ibom government has inaugurated a nine-member Implementation Committee ahead of the 2025 Public Service Week celebration.
The head of civil service, HCS, Elder Effiong Essien, inaugurated the ad-hoc committee, weekend, in his office, acting on behalf of the State government.
The committee, chaired by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Mrs Grace Akpan, has Mr. Ignatius Ekwere, permanent secretary, Ministry of Works and Fire Service; Mrs Rita Saturday Akpanessien, permanent secretary, Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning; Ms Doris Ikpuho, permanent secretary, Office of the Head of Civil Service; Comrade Sunny James, chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Akwa Ibom; Comrade Dominic Abang, chairman, Trade Union Congress, TUC, Akwa Ibom; Comrade Etido Udoh, chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiating Council; Mrs Victoria Nta, head, Planning, Research and Statistics, Office of the Head of Civil Service as members, while Mr Unwana Joshua, head, Council for Arts and Culture, will serve as secretary of the committee.
The head of civil service, Essien, congratulated the members and tasked them with ensuring a well-organised and impactful celebration for public servants across the state.
Essien commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the tradition of honouring civil servants, noting that the 2024 celebration had broken a 10-year hiatus.
He further highlighted the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare, citing the prompt attention given to various entitlements and service conditions as key achievements worthy of celebration.
On behalf of the committee, Akpan, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in the members and pledged to deliver a successful event.
She emphasised the team’s commitment to delivering a celebration befitting the contributions of public servants.
The 2025 Public Service Week is scheduled to commence, today, Monday, June 23, 2025.
Recall that the 2024 edition marked a major return to tradition, having been held after a decade-long pause in such celebrations.
