ONNA
The general manager of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation (AKNC), Mr. Umoette Umoette, and a former commissioner in the State, Hon. Enobong Umoetuk, in the company of the personal assistant to Governor Umo Eno in Nnung Ndem Ward 1, Onna Local Government Area, Elder Ekerete Ituen, over the weekend paid a solidarity visit to victims of a tragic motor accident, which occurred penultimate weekend, at Ikot Akpan Eshiet, along the Etinan – Ndon Eyo Expressway in Onna.
The commuters were returning from the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, where they attended the grand reception of the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, upon his official defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
The victims, made up of seven women from Onna, are currently hospitalised at Immanuel Hospital, Eket. They were among the 18 passengers in a hired bus that transported them to and from the event when the bus tragically overturned.
Meanwhile, eleven other victims who sustained less severe injuries have since been discharged and are receiving follow-up care at the hospital’s outpatient department.
Among those still hospitalised is the deputy State woman leader of APC, who unfortunately lost three fingers on her right hand as a result of the accident.
While consoling the victims in the hospital ward, the visiting delegation encouraged them to remain thankful to God for the miracle of survival in such a life threatening situation, and urged them to see their preservation as a sign of divine favour and hope for better days ahead.
The stakeholders also offered prayers for the victims and made modest contributions in support of their welfare.
In response, the victims expressed heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed sons of Onna for their compassion, visit, and benevolence.
