The management of Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation (AKNC) has promised to support the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, with a view to ensuring the actualisation of its programmes in the coming years.
The general manager/editor-in-chief of the corporation, Mr Umoette Umoette, gave the assurance yesterday, during acourtesy visit by the state NAWOJ executive to the AKNC management.
“I look forward to us working together. This is a new era of a new relationship. In the light of this new development, you can be sure of our maximum support towards the realisation of your programmes”, Umoette stated.
The visit which took place at the AKNC headquarters in Uyo,was also attended by the secretary to the corporation, Mrs Josephine Umoren; the editor (Daily), Comrade Helen Udofa; the marketing manager, Mr Monday Ekpo; the acting production manager, Mr Godson Ndem; and the head of accounts, Mrs Inemesit Itina.
The state chairman of NAWOJ, Comrade Nsikak Okon, thanked the AKNC management for creating time for the visit and intimated of the programmes the association carried out during the first 100 days in office of the new executive committee as well as the Association’s activities and partnerships.
Okon, who was represented by the state secretary, Comrade Patience John, listed the programmes to include sensitisation visits to different markets to educate the women on the need to get their PVCs and be politically active, advocacies for the male child due to the need to raise responsible male children in the society in synchronisation with the female child, in addition to collaborations with female lawyers under FIDA and Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) on campaigns against Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), among others.
She thanked the general manager for the support and hospitality and expressed optimism that the new relationship will bring positive development to the association in particular and the state in general.
The secretary to the corporation, in her remark, congratulated the newly elected executive and commended NAWOJ for itslaudable contributions to the society.
