LAGOS

The leadership of women wing of Akwa Ibom Community, Lagos, has empowered 15 members of the wing who are widows and less privileged in its first phase of the empowerment scheme with cash grant worth thousands of naira.

Addressing the beneficiaries after presentation of the financial aid to them, during the July general assembly of the wing at AKISCOM secretariat, Yaba, Lagos, last Saturday, the women leader, Mrs. Nkoyo Eddy-Bassey, said what the women wing of the community has done was “seed sowing”to help members, especially the widows and less privileged ones among them to grow their various businesses so as to be self-reliant.

She expressed hope that if properly managed, it would help drive the economy and make the beneficiaries financiallybuoyant.

“One of our major projects in the women wing of the community is welfare of our members. Today, we have kick started. This is our first phase of this empowerment and we will continue as we have many widows among us.

“What we have started is a seed sowing to help our fellow women whom most of them are widows and less privileged and they are the backbone of their families.

“The leadership of women wing loves them, want them to feel a sense of belonging and be effective in the meeting in all ramifications. It is my believe that the little seed we have sown will germinate, grow and bear more fruits,” Eddy-Bassey said.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Gloria Udoh expressed appreciation to the leadership of the wing for being responsive and responsible, compassionate and caring forwidows and less privileged members, describing such as amazing and good gesture.

She promised they would make judicious use of the money given them and prayed for more of God’s love and blessings among women of the community.
