AKHA Passes Bill For Law To Establish School Of Culinary Studies, Hospitality MGT, Board

… 6 Bills Scale Through First Reading

A bill seeking the establishment of Akwa Ibom State School of Culinary Studies/Hospitality Management and Board has been passed by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, AKHA. 
The bill, sponsored by the member representing Uruan State Constituency, Dr Itorobong Etim, was passed after consideration of the report of the House Committee on Education, presented during plenary on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, held at the Assembly Complex, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo.
  Chairman, House Committee on Education, Mrs Kenim Onofiok, while presenting the report, explained that inputs were received from stakeholders and the general public, which assisted her committee on its observations and final recommendations.
In the observation, “the bill will provide specialised training for our youths in the gastronomic sector; train chefs to become successful entrepreneurs in the culinary and hospitality industry; prepare Akwa Ibom chefs for export and promote our local cuisines; enhance industrial growth and economic development of our dear state; and provide job opportunities for our teeming youths, thereby reducing unemployment in the state.”
After the clause-by-clause consideration at the Committee of the Whole House, the member representing Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency, Mr Jerry Otu, moved that the bill be read a third time and passed. 
Otu’s motion was seconded by the member representing Eket State Constituency and deputy speaker, Dr Nsibiet Akata.
The speaker, Elder Udeme Otong, directed the clerk, Mrs Nsikak-Abasi Orok, to communicate the House decision to the state executive for appropriate action. 
On the whole, six bills have scaled through the first reading in the House. Four of the bills are sponsored by the deputy speaker, Mr KufeAbasi Edidem, while two others were sponsored by the deputy leader, Dr Nsidibe Akata.
Bills sponsored by Edidem are: Akwa Ibom State Teaching Service Commission Establishment Bill, Technical Schools Board Law Amendment Bill, Universal Basic Education Law Amendment Bill and the Secondary Education Board Law amendment Bill.
   Similarly, bills sponsored by the deputy leader are: A bill for a Law to Repeal the Public Procurement Law, Cap. 122, laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2022 and to Establish the Akwa Ibom State Public Procurement Regulatory Agency and the Fiscal Responsibility Law amendment Bill.
The speakerof the State House of Assembly, Elder Otong, referred these bills to the House Committee on Business, Rules and Ethics for rescheduling.
