
Recover Stolen Vehicle, Nab Suspected Car Thief, Foil Armed Robbery Attack, Neutralise Suspect

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has continued its onslaught on criminals in the state with the recovery of a stolen vehicle and arrest of the suspected car thief.
This came on the same day the command foiled an armed robbery attack, neutralising one suspect and recovering a firearm.
A press statement by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, on Wednesday, said the recovery and arrest came four days earlier.
The statement read in full:
“The Akwa Ibom State Police Command on July 26, 2025, successfully recovered a stolen vehicle after a report was lodged on July 18, 2025.
“The owner of the said vehicle (name withheld) who is a resident of Nto Obo 1 Midim in Abak LGA, reported to the Police that his saloon car, a Toyota Camry, was stolen from the car park of a hospital (name withheld ). He stated he had parked his car there at approximately 1:45 pm on July 18, 2025 after receiving a tally card at the gate, but discovered it was missing before his medical appointment was concluded.
“A diligent stop and search operations led to the sighting of the stolen vehicle on July 26, 2025, at about 9:30 pm, along Ikot Ekpene Road Main Park. One Otoabasi George Ime was found in possession of the vehicle. Mr. Ime claimed to have purchased the car from a car stand located along Ikot Ekpene Road in Uyo LGA.
“Both the suspect and the recovered vehicle have been taken to the station for discreet investigation.
“Diligent investigation will be conducted and outcome of the process will be made public.”
In another statement issued by the command on Sunday, it said it foiled an armed robbery attack on Saturday, the same day the stolen vehicle was recovered, killing the suspect.
The statement read in full:
“On the 26th of July, 2025, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command successfully thwarted an armed robbery attack. One suspect was neutralised and a firearm recovered.
“At approximately 2:25 am, while on a routine weekend night patrol as directed by Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, operatives of the command received a distress call reporting that armed hoodlums were actively operating in Mbiokporo area, specifically along 1745 Hotel Road.
“Acting swiftly on the intelligence, operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the suspects engaged the patrol team, opening fire on the officers. A gun duel ensued, leading to one of the hoodlums sustaining a gunshot injury. The injured suspect was promptly transported to the hospital for urgent medical attention but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
“Exhibits recovered from the deceased suspect include one locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, two live cartridges.
“The Akwa Ibom State Command has launched a comprehensive manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover any additional operational weapons.
“The public is urged to provide any information that may assist in these efforts.”
