The Akwa Ibom government has pledged continued partnership with the Nigerian Navy Military School, Ikot Ntuen in order to ensure congenial atmosphere for teaching and learning in line with the ARISE Agenda of the present administration.
The commissioner for education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet, who stated this, Saturday, during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of 2024 Set of Young Sailors of the Nigerian Navy Military School, Ikot Ntuen, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, said the state government was presently contributing toward infrastructural development of the school, aside payment of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees for the current graduating students on a one-off basis.
Etiebet, who conveyed governor Umo Eno’s felicitations to the Chief of Naval Staff, commandant, staff and the graduating students, congratulated the Young Sailors on the successful completion of their six years course.
She lauded the naval authorities for citing the Nigerian Navy Military School in Akwa Ibom, expressing optimism that with the high level of discipline and excellence demonstrated by the Young Sailors in the course of their training, they will, in the near future, become professionals and seasoned military officers who will in turn make meaningful contributions toward the development of the country.
The education boss, who recalled with nostalgia the giant strides recorded by three students of Akwa Ibom origin in last month’s results published by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), re-affirmed the present administration’s determination to provide qualitative education in the state.
Earlier in his address, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, said the Passing Out Parade was organised to celebrate the graduating Young Sailors for their hard work, dedication and “most importantly, to honour the outstanding Young Sailors who have distinguished themselves”, in their academics and training.
The naval chief, whose address was presented by the commandant of the school, Navy Captain O. B. Oko, expressed appreciation to members of staff of the school for their hard work and dedication, adding, “the Commandant and his team’s efforts in grooming and training these young Nigerians are glaring and commendable.”
He further stated that the vision and mission of the school hold many prospects, not only for the Nigerian Navy, but also for the nation at large.
While congratulating the Young Sailors on their graduation, Ogalla charged them to make judicious use of the training gained in order to remain good ambassadors of their alma mater.
The elated naval Chief prayed God’s blessings upon Akwa Ibom, in particular, and the country in general.
The event, which was attended by top echelons of the military drawn from the Nigerian Navy, Army and Air Force, as well as parents and guardians of the graduating students, featured military parade, drills and presentation of awards to deserving Sailors with Young Sailor Ekanem Ayu emerging as overall best graduating Student and recipient of the Chief of Naval Staff’s excellence award.
