Elections into vacant positions of the Akwa Ibom Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, will take place Saturday, August 2, 2025 at the NUJ Press Centre, Information Drive, Uyo.
A joint statement by the chairman and secretary of the credentials committee, Comrade Gabriel Ekaidem and Unyime Akpan, ratified by the national secretary of union, Achike Chude, said accreditation of delegates would commence by 7.30 am.
The statement disclosed that four candidates have been cleared for the chairmanship position, three for the vice chairmanship, two for secretary while the treasurer, assistant secretary, financial secretary and auditor are unopposed.
Chude said the National Secretariat has commended the credentials committee for efforts made thus far in fulfillment of their mandate.
“Naturally, we understand that the nature of competitive electoral processes elicit great vigour and passion which can be positive if properly deployed.
“We praise the members of the Akwa Ibom Council for introducing relative decorum and decency into this process.
“We urge all members to carry this commendable attitude forward for the good of the union,“ Chude stated.
