As part of measures to improve water supply
in rural communities, the Akwa Ibom government has commenced the upgrading of all electricity generator-powered boreholes to solar power.
The state commissioner for water resources and sanitation, Mrs Enobong Mbobo, made this known, recently, when she commissioned a mini-water project donated by a London-based Akwa Ibomite, Princess Emem Essien, to Anyam Nsit community, at the village council arena, in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area.
Mbobo, who said government was desirous of having improved and efficient water supply for rural dwellers, said with solar power the suffering of community members due to thepetrol price and other negative effects of using generators to power the boreholes will be reduced.
The commissioner said since rural development is a major plank of the ARISE Agenda, Gov Umo Eno is leaving no stones unturned in embarking on projects that will ameliorate the condition of living of the ruralists, such as improving water supply in the communities.
She expressed gratitude to Princess Emem Essien for keying into the ARISE Agenda development blueprint of Governor Eno with the donation of the water project.
Mbobourged community members of Anyam Nsit, particularly the youths, to protect the water project from vandalism and called on public spirited individuals to emulate the kind gesture of Essien by contributing their quota towards the development of their communities and the state at large.
Earlier, the donor of the mini water project, Princess Emem Essien, had said the project was donated by her in conjunction with her outfit, Panache Empowerment Global, as part of effort to further the cause of humanity in her community.
Represented by Akwa Ibom State coordinator of Panache Empowerment Group and Abia State Chapter chairman,Stanley Mba, she said the commissioning of the water project was in commemoration of her birthday and expressed deep gratitude to God for her life and all the guests at the event for honouring the invitation, especially the commissioner for water resources, Dr. Enobong Mbobo.
