The Akwa Ibom government has described the death of Otuekong Raphael Bassey, a former commissioner for housing, as a monumental loss not only for his family but the state government at large.
The state governor, Pastor Umo Eno, made the remarks, weekend, at the EXCO Chambers, Government House, Uyo, during a valedictory session in honour of the departed former commissioner.
Eno recalled that while alive, the deceased was diligent and served the state meritoriously with passion and utmost integrity.
“Honourable Otuekong Raphael Bassey whose mortal remains are being accorded the rites of passage in his capacity as a member of the immediate past State Executive Council, was a great politician, a loyal and dependable ally and consummate believer in the ARISE Agenda,” the governor said, adding that, as the commissioner for housing in the immediate past EXCO, he was instrumental in identifying some of the moribund assets of the State and ensured that they were recovered for future use by government.
Eno said government was proud and deeply appreciative of his service to the state and his commitment to probity and transparency, while assuring the family of continued support, and awarded scholarship to the children through their degree programmes.
The dean of commissioners and commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs, Mr Frank Archibong, described the late Bassey as a good man and a dedicated public servant.
Frank, who said he counted it an honour to have served alongside with Late Bassey in the State Executive Council, assured that they would continue to stand by the family.
