Akwa Ibom governor has sued for the selection of the best candidate for the position of vice chancellor of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), by the university council and one who will have the interest of the institution at heart.
Pastor Umo Eno, who bared his mind, Thursday, at Government House, Uyo, during a courtesy call on him by the management of the institution, led by the acting vice chancellor, Professor Samuel Gbadebo Odewumi, assured the university’s management that the State government will collaborate with the institution to ensure a transparent and peaceful selection of a substantive vice chancellor.
“We will work with you to the extent that will maintain peace and orderliness in the institution and the State; and then we allow God to work with you to select someone that will have the interest of the university at heart,” he said.
Welcoming the acting vice chancellor, Odewumi, and his team to the State, Eno, an alumnus of the institution, appreciated them for the visit, expressing delight that Odewumi has experienced the hospitality and warmth which, he acknowledged, were the characteristics of the State.
“Thank you for coming. We will check the areas we can collaborate with the university, and we will do so because we believe in the advancement of education which is part of our ARISE Agenda.”
Odewumi appreciated Eno for the support extended to the institution by the State government under his leadership, and specifically appreciated him for the appointment of numerous members of the university community into his government and the State Executive Council in particular, and for also setting up a CNG bus station in the university campus to enhance movement to and from the campuses at a reduced transportation cost.
He acknowledged the governor’s outstanding and remarkable achievements in less than three years in office, which has distinguished him from his contemporaries in the country, saying the university was proud to have him as an alumnus.
With the governor to receive the visitors were his deputy, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; secretary to the State government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah; executive assistant and chief delivery advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; members of the State Executive Council and other government officials.
In the UNIUYO delegation were, the acting deputy vice chancellor (Administration), Professor Enobong Ikpeme; acting deputy vice chancellor (Academics), Professor Dianabasi Eduwem;
registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie; acting bursar, Mrs Mfon Etuk; acting librarian, Dr. Mary Bassey; and the protocol officer to the vice chancellor, Mr. Kingsley Archibong.
