…Inaugurates 14.8km Internal Roads In Onna
By Bassey Nkponam
ONNA
Governor Umo Eno, has cautioned citizens against giving attention to false information, unverified claims and utterances capable of misleading the public and creating political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Eno, spoke on Monday,  during the inauguration of 14.8 kilometres of internal roads and spurs, including a 1.9-kilometre discharge drainage system, in Awa, Onna Local Government Area.
He said there were attempts by some individuals to create disagreement between him and the immediate past governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, stressing that political differences would not stop him from respecting and maintaining a cordial relationship with his predecessor.
Eno described Emmanuel as a leader who made sacrifices for the development of the state, noting that his predecessor executed projects across several communities, sometimes at the expense of his own immediate environment.
The governor said it was, therefore, his responsibility to ensure the completion of the Awa internal road project initiated by the former governor.
He described the road project as very significant to him because it was located in the home community of his predecessor, adding that he deliberately chosed to inaugurate the project himself as a demonstration of honour and respect for his political father.
Eno commended the people and stakeholders of Onna,  particularly the council chairman, Mr Kufre Umoren, for their support and endorsement of his administration.
He he disclosed that 26 projects were at various stages of completion across the local government area.
Addressing concerns over alleged damage to some roads by heavy-duty vehicles,  Eno said the government would engage the operators and relevant stakeholders to find a solution, and appealed to residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
The state chief executive also announced plans for the establishment of a tolling arrangement under which ordinary road users would be exempted, while heavy-duty vehicles would contribute towards road maintenance.
He thanked the people of Onna for the warm reception accorded him and assured them of more development projects in the years ahead.
Highlighting the project milestone,  the commissioner for Works, Professor Eno Ibanga, described the inauguration as significant, recalling that it was the first major project he handled after his appointment as commissioner during the previous administration.
Ibanga commended Governor Eno for prioritising the completion of the road project, expressing satisfaction that the 14.8-kilometre internal roads had finally been delivered.
The chairman of Onna  Local Government Area, Umoren, in his welcome address, commended the governor for the road project and other interventions in the area, including a primary healthcare centre, model primary school and compassionate homes for vulnerable persons.
He pledged the support of the council and stakeholders to the administration, while urging the people to reciprocate the governor’s development efforts.
Goodwill messages were also delivered by the political leader of Onna, Mr Pat Ifon; member representing Onna State constituency in the House of Assembly, Mr Sunday Johnny; commissioner for finance, Mr Emem Bob; former member of the House of Representatives, Mrs  Owoidighe Ekpoatai; and the Paramount Ruler of Onna, HRM Edidem Raymond Inyang.
The speakers commended  Governor Eno for infrastructure development in the area and expressed support for his administration.
