OSHOGBO

Senator Ademola Adeleke has assured Osun State residents of greater things as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declares him winner of Saturday’s polls.

Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party won the election with 403,371 votes.

He polled the highest votes to defeat his major contender, Governor Gboyega Oyetola who pulled 375,027 votes.

Speaking to newsmen recently Adeleke assured that Osun State would move forward, describing himself as the governor of the people.

“The people of Osun should expect great things to come to Osun State. This governor is for the people, for the grassroots.

“They supported me and Osun State and will never again go backwards, they will keep moving forward and I can assure you once again I’ll not disappoint the masses that stood by me.

“I’ll go ahead and make sure Osun is great again. I’ll bring good tidings to Osun, thank you to everyone.”

Ademola Adeleke, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was officially declared the winner of the Osun State governorship election.

The chief returning officer of the election, OluwatoyinOgundipe, announced Adeleke the winner in Osogbo, the capital city.

He won 17 of the 30 local government areas.

Incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), however, won in the remaining 13 LGAs.

While Adeleke garnered 403,371 votes in the overall results from LGAs, Oyetola polled 375,027 votes.

Despite having 15 candidates contesting for the governorship seat, the election was keenly contested by APC’s Oyetola and PDP’s Adeleke.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), there were 5,305 Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) and 332 Registration Areas (RAs) available for the election.

This was disclosed last week by the resident electoral commissioner, Prof. Abdulganiyu Raji, in preparations for the election.

The commission also put the number of registration areas in Osun at 332 with 1,955,657 registered voters and while only 335,298 collected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
