Akwa Ibom governor has said that his administration has taken bold and decisive actions aimed at the actualisation of Ibom Deep Seaport project.
Pastor Umo Eno, who stated this in his 2026 Easter broadcast to the people, yesterday, from Government House, Uyo, recalled that since he came into office, his administration has undertaken and completed a detailed feasibility study showing the viability of the project, which is a critical starting point in any business venture.
Eno said government has, for the first time, put together a comprehensive fact-sheet for prospective investors and that this has ignited a lot of interests from investors.
According to him, government has equally constructed access road to the port and awarded contract for onshore/offshore geophysical studies of the port, which comprises onshore geotechnical surveys – a crucial step for any port development.
He hinted that on April 8, 2026, the committee on Ibom Deep Seaport project will be addressing and providing more details on the steps so far undertaken to actualise the project, reemphasising that actualisation of the project was not a sprint but a marathon as government was putting the building blocks to guide it along the way.
According to Eno, while government understands that people were in such a hurry to realise the deep seaport, there was need to follow due process and ensure that things were done right.
On the power sector, the governor explained that following the passage of the Federal Electricity Act, 2023, and the Power Summit held last September, the State government currently has a detailed Roadmap on Power which it was working closely with its consultant to implement.
He said government has consequently established the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency, pointing out that the two agencies are required by law to kick-start the process of unboarding electricity generation and distribution in the State, adding that names of the five professionals who would run the Commission will be announced soon.
He expressed hope that the State House of Assembly will confirm their nomination expeditiously.
Eno noted that though the issue of epileptic power supply is currently a national problem, government feels the pain that its citizens were going through with the challenge, and was on the way to providing regular electricity to its people.
“On the power sector, following the passage of the Federal Electricity Act, 2023, and the Power Summit we held last September, we have today a detailed Roadmap on Power which we are working closely with our consultant to implement.
“Two days ago, I held a joint EXCO meeting with the chairmen of all the 31 local government areas, where they were well briefed on the concrete plans to provide electricity for our people within the next twelve months.
“They were also briefed on the steps to provide the unserved or off-grid areas, which is mainly in our rural areas.
“We have consequently established the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Akwa Ibom State Electrification Agency. The two agencies that are required by law to kick-start the process of unboarding electricity generation and distribution in our State.
The governor said government feels the pain that Akwa Ibom people and residents are going through due to epileptic power supply, noting that though it was a national problem, the State is on the way to providing regular electricity to the people.
