The Akwa Ibom governor has identified the unity and peace existing in the State as the greatest achievement of his administration in the last two years.
Pastor Umo Eno, who stated this Sunday, during the special anniversary thanksgiving service to mark the second year of his administration, which took place at the International Christian Worship Centre, Uyo, with the theme, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, culled from Lamentations 3: 23, said without the existing peace and unity, there would have been no progress in the State.
“If anyone asks me the greatest achievement of this administration in two years, it is the unity and peace we have achieve. Nothing would have happened if there was no unity and peace in this State, nothing. There would have been a big distraction.
“We don’t have Lagos front, we don’t have Abuja front, we don’t have war with the House of Assembly, we don’t have problems at the local government level. It is that unity of purpose that God answering the prayers of all our fathers have brought peace to this State.
“It is that peace that is the greatest achievement in the last two years. That is why whatever God has given to us, we can take it back and give to the people because that peace has allowed for concentration, that peace has allowed you to sleep and have dreams of projects, dreams of moving the State forward.
“So, I want to thank God and all Akwa Ibomites that today, we can sit together, we can live together, we can assist and help one another”, Eno said, noting the contributions of past governors ranging from Godswill Akpabio, to his political father, Mr Udom Emmanuel and Obong Victor Attah, acknowledging that he was building on the foundation laid by them.
“Whatever you see happening in Akwa Ibom today, is not the making of any man. It is just the grace of God. That is why I thank our past leaders beginning from the Senate President, my political father, Deacon Udom Emmanuel, Obong Victor Attah, our governors, on whose shoulder I stand here today for the work they had done.
He thanked the deputy governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, members of his team, stakeholders and the entire Akwa Ibomites for their support to his administration which has led to the success story of government.
The governor sued for continued peace and unity among the citizens of the State, as a lot can be achieved when there is unity and peace.
In his welcome remarks, the chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Akwa Ibom State, Bishop Chris Nyong, congratulated Governor Eno for successfully steering the ship of leadership in the State as governor, priest and chief administrator in the last two years.
Nyong highlighted some of the achievements of the governor in the last two years, and prayed for long life in good health for the governor to continue his good works of impacting lives in the years ahead, adding that the Church in Akwa Ibom was proud of him.
Ministering on the theme of the service, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, the senior pastor of Insight Bible Church and current publicity secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Pastor Sylvanus Ukafia, described faithfulness as God’s steadfast love for man in the face of difficulties, stressing that God is not just faithful to man but is more committed to man.
Ukafia noted that God’s faithfulness is not dependent on man, but that God does what he desires even with our lack of faith in him.
He attributed the success recorded by Governor Eno in the last two years of his administration to God’s faithfulness to him, and not because he was the wisest, noting that when God is on one’s side, whatever he does becomes better, leading to celebration, as done by Eno through the special thanksgiving service.
Goodwill messages came from the State Judiciary through the Chief Judge, the legislature, through the speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, chairmen of PDP, APC, and IPAC.
In attendance were past deputy governors of the State, including Chief Etim Okpoyo, Obong Nsima Ekere, Noble Lady Valerie Ebe, Senator Chris Ekpenyong, who was represented by his wife, and a host of dignitaries from different sections of the State.
The event featured renditions from different choir groups including the Government House Unique Voices, the International Christian Worship Centre Choir, Akwa Ibom State Children’s choir, amongst others.
