A non-governmental organisation in Delta State Monday Onyeme Foundation has awarded scholarship worth millions of naira to 218 undergraduates of Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East and Ukwuani Local Governments of Delta State.
The founder and chairman of the foundation chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue, Sir Monday Onyeme,gave the hint during the presentation of cheques to the beneficiaries expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity of offering scholarships to students from Ndokwa East, NdokwaWest and Ukwuani Local Government areas of Delta State.
According to the Monday Onyeme, the scholarship started in 2016 with one ward in Ndokwa West but as at today, it has spread to the three local governments in Ndokwa Nation.
He said the scholarship is part of his corporate social responsibility and is being carryout annually.
“I am very happy because God has been faithful in making sure i am impactful to people.
As it concerns this scholarship scheme, we stated it in Ward 5 Ndokwa West LGA in 2016 and after must consideration, we decided to take it to all the wards in Ndokwa West and from there we decided to move it to all the local governments in Ndokwa Nation in 2019.
In 2019, we selected 150 students across the three local governments and today we have 218 students being presented with cheques today.
The process of selecting beneficiaries is an open and transparent process.
The same day the beneficiaries wrote the exam for the scholarship, we announced the winner to avoid corruption.
Education is a the key to a better tomorrow, the beneficiaries should make sure they make good use of the fund given to them in pursuing their education.” he said while urging other people who have the spirit of giving to key into this kind of scheme to accommodate more students.
Meanwhile the chairman of the occasion, The Peoples Democratic Party chairman in Delta North Sir Moses Iduh has called on well meaning Deltans to support the Monday Onyemefoundation in reaching out to other students.
Iduh noted this while commending the founder of the foundation Monday Onyeme .
“Most people have seen billions but are not impactful to people.
I have known Onyeme for years now and I am glad to have witnessed the presentation of Cheques to the beneficiaries.
The beneficiaries are men and women that will rule this nation.
Some people are out of shcool because of school fees and today Monday Onyeme is giving our scholarship to 218 students.
Onyeme humanitarian services are worthy of commendation and emulation.
The beneficiaries should focus on their study so as to make Monday Onyeme Foundation proud.”
The commissioner for economic planning, Mr Barry Pere Gbe,during the presentation of cheques said the Monday Onyeme has placed value on education and should be appreciated.
He said he has known Onyeme for years and could testify of his love towards the educational sector.
“Government cannot build the educational sector without the support of the general public.
That is why we are appreciating the Monday Onyemefoundation for partnering the state government through his scholarship.”
The state commissioner for secondary education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, also commended the Monday Onyeme foundation for supporting the state government in reducing numbers of school dropout.
The People’s Democratic Party PDP Secretary in Delta State Hon Dan Ossai, the chairman Ukwuani Local Government council, Barr Ajede Solomon Possible, Senior Special Assistant on media to the Delta State Government, Mr Ossai OvieSuccess, during the ceremony urged the beneficiaries to use the money given to them judiciously and should not be diverted instead of investing in their educations.
