The Akwa Ibom governor has been endorsed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State as the sole candidate of the the party for 2027 gubernatorial election.
The endorsement came, Saturday, during a New Year visit by Pastor Umo Eno to the party at its State secretariat in Atan Offot, Uyo, during which the party chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan, conveyed the resolution of the PDP in the State to endorse Eno as the sole candidate of the party for the 2027 gubernatorial election in the State.
Akpan, who said the endorsement by the party was as a result of the governor’s superlative performance in the State in the last 20 months, said the party was proud of Eno, hence their decision for the endorsement.
He thanked the governor and leader of the party for the New Year visit and for his strong support for the party, reaffirming the party’s support for the State government.
The PDP national woman leader, Hajiya Amina Darosimi, who represented the national leadership of the party, supported the State party’s acknowledgement of Eno’s development strides and capacity in building the State.
Darosimi, who said the party at the national was proud of the governor’s great strides in Akwa Ibom, maintained that the PDP remains committed to resisting any move to make Nigeria a one-party nation, and is offering a viable opposition in the country.
She affirmed the party’s support to ensure that Eno continues in office to continue his good works in the State, and by so doing, making the party proud.
The State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, expressed gratitude to the party for galvanising support across its various structures towards the success of his administration in the last 20 months, saying his visit to the party was in line with an age-long tradition of leaders who emerge on the platform of the party.
Eno assured the party of his administration’s commitment to making the party proud through delivering good governance to the people of the State in line with the ARISE Agenda.
The governor, who acknowledged the party as the owner of the government, assured the party that his administration will continue its grassroots-targeted development to reciprocate the its goodwill and sustain its popularity across Akwa Ibom communities.
He noted that his administration has paid attention to taking development to the grassroots and will continue to impact rural communities to reciprocate their massive support towards his emergence as governor and the pursuit of his administration’s economic blueprint, the ARISE Agenda.
Eno told the party of his decision to commence a tour of federal constituencies soon for town hall meetings, urging stakeholders to come together and agree on what to put forward ahead of the meetings.
The governor also made known plans to institute empowerment schemes during the town hall meetings, on local government area basis, where he will reach out to farmers, traders and entrepreneurs to boost the local economy.
He tasked party faithful, who have been privileged to serve in the government in various capacities, to make efforts to maintain a fruitful relationship with their constituents as a means of boosting their political value among their people.
According to him, this would be to the advantage of the party in sustaining its popularity.
