The 2024 Supplementary budget has been received by the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) from the state governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.
The proposed revised 2024 supplementary budget has an augmented figure of N73,491,516,890, from an initial approved sum of N849,970,759,990, totalling N923,462,276,880.
In line with the workings of the House, the executive bill was read by the clerk of the House, Mrs. Nsikak-Abasi Orok, during plenary on Thursday, November 21, 2024, held at the Assembly Complex, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, following a motion by the member representing Ini State Constituency, Mr. Lawrence Udoide and seconded by the member representing Nsit Ibom,  Mr.  Eric Akpan.
Leading the debate on the supplementary budget, the member for Nsit ubium State Constituency and deputy House leader, Mr Otobong Bob, said the 2024 revised financial provision was necessary as there are sectors which funds would be plunged in, to support the ARISE Agenda of the state government.
Bob, a lawyer, disclosed that the revised budget has a recurrent expenditure of N350,142,918,810 and a capital expenditure of N573,319,358,070.
The Nsit ubium lawmaker added that the supplementary budget would, among other things, cater for public servants, especially in the newly created Ministry of Humanitarian Services.
To this end, the bill was subsequently read the second time and committed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations for scrutiny and to report back to the House within one week.
Similarly, Governor Umo Eno’s message  for an adjustment to the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) was  referred to the House Committee on Economic Planning for consideration and to report back to the House within one week.
Meanwhile, the House will reconvene on Tuesday, November 26, by 10am.
