Workers in Akwa Ibom are set to join their counterparts across the world to mark the 2024 Public Service Week set aside by the United Nations to acknowledge and celebrate workers.
The Public Service Week, which has as its theme: “Stay Forward Looking…Make a Difference,” is scheduled to take place from Monday, June 17 to Sunday, June 23, 2024.
According to the Akwa Ibom head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, the participation of Akwa Ibom workers in the global event follows the approval by the State governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, which comes 10 years since it was last celebrated in 2014.
A schedule of activities for the weeklong celebration in Akwa Ibom indicated that it will flag off with a Novelty Football Match between permanent secretaries and directors on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat Football Pitch by 4pm.
This will be followed by Public Lecture on the theme, “Stay Forward Looking – Make a Difference”, taking place at the Civil Service Auditorium, Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat, Uyo, on Friday, June 21, 2024 by 10am.
Also, a Road Walk to be led by the head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, will take place on Saturday, June 22, 2024, by 7am, with take-off point at Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat in Uyo to Unity Park, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, where series of aerobics shall be observed to keep the workers fit for optimal productivity.
The weeklong event will climax with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at the International Christian Worship Centre, Udo Udoma Avenue Uyo, by 1pm.
Accordingly, all workers in the State are requested to attend the events and also turn out en-masse for the Thanksgiving Service to thank God for His grace upon their lives, the State and the workers-friendly governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, who is expected to attend the Thanksgiving Service as the Special Guest of Honour.
In a Call Letter signed by the Head of Civil Service and made available by the chairman of the 2024 Public Service Week Planning Committee, who is also the permanent secretary, Ministry of Power, Dr Valerie Obot, all permanent secretaries and heads of Extra-Ministerial Departments are requested to ensure attendance and active participation in all activities of the week by workers in their different MDAs.
Recall that June 23rd was set aside by the United Nations as the International Public Service Day to acknowledge and celebrate workers for their value added to the development of the society.
