

… Approves The Order Of 50 CNG Buses From Turkey

In a major push to boost healthcare delivery for his people, the Akwa Ibom governor has approved the establishment of a 350 – bed medical Facility in Akwa Ibom.
The world class health facility when completed, will help redefine healthcare delivery in the state.
Similarly, the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno has approved the expansion of the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) city bus fleet from 20 to 50,
This gesture, according to government, is to help cut the cost of transportation as well as improve mobility within the state.
The buses, currently being manufactured in Turkey, form the first phase of a mass transit scheme that will cover all the 31 local government areas of the state on a rotational basis.
A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Aniekan Umanah, after Tuesday’s Executive Council meeting, said the buses will arrive the state soon.
The initiative which is seen as a direct response to the high cost of transportation, is in line with the Governor’s ARISE Agenda to deliver affordable, safe, and eco-friendly transport options to residents.
” The meeting also took far-reaching decisions in health, infrastructure, sports, and resource control”.
” Council ratified the agreement and contract award for the proposed 350-bed Ibom International Hospital, a world-class medical facility expected to redefine healthcare delivery in the state. It also reviewed road projects spanning 771 kilometres across all local governments, with a directive to align community needs with budgetary provisions in the forthcoming 2026 People’s Budget”.
” On resource management, the Governor inaugurated a high-powered committee to combat illegal mining, chaired by the Commissioner for Environment. The decision, according to the statement, is to regulate activities in the sector, protect the environment, and avert looming security threats”, the statement read in part.
In the area of youth development, the state government approved the purchase of equipment for 30 different sports ahead of the Akwa Ibom Sports Festival billed for September 8. The festival, the first of its kind, will feature 18 sporting events and is expected to discover and groom young talents across the state.
Council also reviewed progress on the Oron Maritime Terminal and directed an acceleration of works to ensure ferry services and other blue economy infrastructure come on stream soon.
